The Lymperio Cultural Center \u2013 former Chomori Elementary School<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The story of this emblematic building, perched at the top of the village and used for decades as a school, begins in the mid-1930s. At that time, construction started on a new, modern schoolhouse, completed in 1938 thanks to the generosity of our fellow villager, Dimitrios Lymperis. Unfortunately, the first structure collapsed during the war due to poor workmanship, forcing the children to return to the old building of Agia Paraskevi \u2013 which also served as a \u201ckafeneio\u201d and still stands in the village square.<\/p>\n

In 1952, the same benefactor decided once again to fund the building of a school. In 1953, he entrusted Athanasios Antonios Drosos \u2013 a Chomorite teacher who had married her niece \u2013 with the task of building the new stone schoolhouse that still stands today. Thus was formed the Beautification Committee of Chomori, consisting of: Athanasios Drosos, teacher and chairman; Ioannis Kerassias, teacher at the elementary school; Antonios Lymperis, the village priest; Ioannis Zamparas, agronomist and trusted figure among both donors and villagers; and Athanasios Chantzis, representative of the local council. The school was completed in 1954 at a cost of 150,000 drachmas. It included a teacher\u2019s residence, an iron fence, a playground with gym equipment, a kitchen, a school garden with a water reservoir, and sanitary facilities. The first teacher in the new school was Ioannis A. Kerassias.<\/p>\n

The school ceased operating in the academic year 1984\u20131985. Its last students were Paraskevi Ploumi and the brothers Georgios and Christos K. Chantzis, who attended the 6th, 4th, and 3rd grades respectively. Countless memories were forged in its classrooms over three decades. Here the children of Chomori learned their first letters, counted their numbers, and discovered the bonds of community. The school functioned on a mutual teaching system, with older students helping the younger ones, and for many it opened the path to secondary school and even university studies.<\/p>\n

For many years, the building remained unused, until in 2013 it was thoroughly renovated thanks to the generosity of brothers Panagiotis and Tryfon N. Skiadas. Today, the building houses the Cultural Center, the Folklore Museum of Chomori (Skiadas Brothers Museum) with its fascinating exhibits, and the lending library.
