Το γήπεδο, οι “κούνιες” και τα “παγκάκια” είναι αναπόσπαστο μέρος της καθημερινής βόλτας κάθε Χομορίτη, ιδιαίτερα τις απογευματινές ώρες που ο ήλιος χάνεται στην κοιλάδα του Κότσαλου το χειμώνα (ή πίσω από το Ξεροβούνι το καλοκάιρι) και νωρίς το πρωί που η φύση ξυπνάει. Βρίσκονται στο δυτικό άκρο του χωριού σε απόσταση 700 μέτρων από την πλατεία.
Το γήπεδο ποδοσφαίρου, από τα καλύτερα στην Ορεινή Ναυπακτία, δημιουργήθηκε στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του ‘70 με πρωτοβουλία του Προέδρου της Κοινότητας Σωτήρη Ε. Δρόσου. Για να γίνει το γήπεδο και η παιδική χαρά ορισμένοι χωριανοί προσφέρανε τόπο, κόπο και χρήματα. Εδώ έχουν λάβει χώρα τα μεγάλα “ντέρμπι” μεταξύ Χόμορης – Ελευθέριανης, Χόμορης – Πλατάνου και πολλά άλλα. Το γήπεδο μπάσκετ κατασκευάστηκε το 1995 και έδωσε την ευκαιρία στα παιδιά να συνεχίσουν τις προπονήσεις τους και τους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες στο χωριό. Στο ύψος του ποδοσφαιρκού γηπέδου, στην απάνω μεριά του δρόμου υπάρχει βρύση με κρύο νερό που κατασκευάστηκε το 1986, δωρεά του Δημητρίου Κ. Σβώκου.
Η παιδική χαρά επίσης στήθηκε στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του ‘70 και περιελάμβανε κούνιες για παιδιά και νήπια, τσουλήθρα, τραμπάλα, αυτοκινούμενο μύλο και μονόζυγα. Το 2016 αναικαινίστηκε εξ ολοκλήρου με μεγάλη δωρέα του συγχωριανού μας Επαμεινώνδα Κ. Πατούχα και με την οικονομική αρωγή του Πολιτιστικού Συλλόγου του χωριού. Κάτω από την αιωνόβια αχλαδιά χτίστηκε κιόσκι με καθίσματα. Την τεχνική μελέτη ανελαβε αφιλοκερδώς ο αρχιτέκτονας Βασίλης Μπαρμπαγιάννης από τη Ναύπακτο.
Στα γήπεδα και την παιδική χαρά, τα Χομοριτόπουλα πέρασαν ώρες ξέγνοιαστου παιχνιδιού, κοινωνικοποίηθηκαν και εκγύμνασαν σώμα και νου. Σήμερα, είναι μεγάλη ευκαιρία για κάθε νέο γονιό να φέρει τα παιδιά του εδώ για να παίξουν όπως παλιά.
Διαβαίνοντας πάνω απο την παιδική χαρά φτάνουμε στο “Νεράκι” – εκεί ξαποσταίνουμε στα παγκάκια που αγναντεύουν τα βοσκοτόπια και τις ξακουστές χομορίτικες πεζούλες στο Ξεροβούνι – αποτυπώνουν την ισχυρή θέληση, την απίστευτη αντοχή και την απαράμιλλη εργατικότητα των προγόνων μας.
The Sports Field and Playground
The village field, the swings, and the benches are woven into the daily rhythm of life in Chomori. In the quiet hours of the afternoon, when the sun dips into the valley of the Kotsalos in winter—or behind the rugged Xerovouni in summer—villagers gather here. In the early mornings, as nature stirs awake, the place fills with the sounds of footsteps, laughter, and play. Set on the western edge of the village, about 700 meters from the square, it is a beloved destination for young and old alike.
The football field—one of the finest in Mountainous Nafpaktia—was created in the early 1970s under the initiative of Sotiris E. Drosos, then President of the Community. To bring it, and the playground, to life, villagers offered land, effort, and money. Here, great “derbies” once unfolded—Chomori against Eleftheriani, Chomori against Platanos, and many more. In 1995, a basketball court was added, giving children a chance to continue their training even during summer stays in the village. Just above the football field, on the roadside, a fountain was built in 1986 with the refreshing water of the mountains, a gift from Dimitrios K. Svokos.
The playground too dates back to the early 1970s, with swings for children and toddlers, a slide, a seesaw, a merry-go-round, and gym bars. In 2016, it was fully renovated thanks to the generous donation of our fellow villager Epameinondas K. Patouchas and the financial support of the Cultural Association. Beneath the shade of an ancient pear tree, a wooden gazebo with benches was built. The technical design was offered freely by architect Vasilis Barmpagiannis from Nafpaktos.
Generations of Chomori children grew up here—playing carefree, learning to share, and training both body and spirit. Today, it is once again a blessing for parents to bring their children here, to play as in times past.
Climbing just above the playground, one reaches the spot called “To Neraki” (“The Little Spring”), where benches invite visitors to pause and take in the grazing fields and the famed terraced slopes of Xerovouni. These terraces, etched into the mountainside, remain a lasting testament to the willpower, endurance, and tireless labor of our ancestors.
