Ιατρείο
Το Περιφερειακό Ιατρείο Χόμορης σήμερα δεν ανοίγει την πόρτα του παρά σπάνια, όταν κάποιος αγροτικός ιατρός από το Κέντρο Υγείας Άνω Χώρας βγει σε περιοδεία. Χτίστηκε τη δεκαετία του 1980 και τα τελευταία χρόνια λειτουργεί ως Εκλογικό Κέντρο.
Ταβέρνα
Η ταβέρνα του χωριού, “Τα Πλατανάκια”, λειτουργεί από το 2003 υπό τη διεύθυνση της συγχωριανής μας Ειρήνης Πλούμη και του συζύγου της Γιώργου Αγγελή. Είναι ανοιχτή όλο το χρόνο και προσφέρει νόστιμα σπιτικά φαγητά, καλοψημένα κρέατα και καλό κρασί. Αποτελεί σημείο αναφοράς στο χωριό, και τους χειμερινούς μήνες στη σόμπα της ζεσταίνονται οι χωριανοί, οι επισκέπτες και παρέες κυνηγών. Εδώ γίνεται κάθε Φλεβάρη και η Γιορτή της Τσιγαρίθρας.
Η ταβέρνα στεγάζεται στο κτίριο του παλιού Κοινοτικού Γραφείου, έργο του αείμνηστου Προέδρου της Κοινότητας Σωτήρη Ε. Δρόσου. Λειτούργησε για πρώτη φορά ως ταβέρνα το 1997 από τον Ανδρέα Αλ. Ανδρεόπουλο και λίγα χρόνια μετά επεκτάθηκε για να χωράει περισσότερους θαμώνες.
Η πρώτη ταβέρνα στη «σύγχρονη» εποχή ήταν “Ο Μερακλής”, έμπνευση και δημιουργία του Γιώργου Πελέκη και του υιού του Γρηγόρη, η οποία σέρβιρε στην όμορφη αυλή του σπιτιού τους από το 1995 και αργότερα στο καφενείο και την πλατεία έως το 2008. Κάθε χρόνο της Αγίας Παρασκευής ο Γρηγόρης έστηνε στο μαγαζί του μεγάλο παραδοσιακό γλέντι με ζωντανή ορχήστρα και ψητά, αναβιώνοντας έτσι το χομορίτικο πανηγύρι.
Αναφορά πρέπει να γίνει ακόμα και στην οικογένεια του Αναστασίου Α. Θεοφάνη, ο οποίος διατηρούσε για πολλά χρόνια μαγαζί δίπλα στο καφενείο, στο οίκημα του Χαντζοφλώρου. Το μαγαζί λειτούργησε ως κρεοπωλείο με δικά του ντόπια κρέατα, ως παντοπωλείο και ενίοτε ως ουζερί για μια κρύα μπύρα και σπιτικούς κρεατομεζέδες.
The Infirmary
The Regional Infirmary of Chomori now opens its doors only on rare occasions—when a young rural doctor from the Health Center of Ano Chora makes his rounds through the mountains. Built in the 1980s with hopes of serving the villagers’ needs, its rooms today stand mostly in silence, waiting for voices that seldom come. In recent years, its role has shifted, finding a new purpose as the village’s Election Center, where the quiet of its walls briefly breaks with the murmur of civic life.
The Tavern
The village tavern, “Ta Platanakia” (“The Little Plane Trees”), has been welcoming guests since 2003 under the warm care of our fellow villager Eirini Ploumi and her husband Giorgos Angelis. Open throughout the year, it offers delicious homemade dishes, perfectly grilled meats, and fine wine. More than just a place to eat, it has become a gathering spot: in wintertime, villagers, visitors, and hunting parties gather around its stove, while every February the festive Celebration of Tsigarithra brings people together with good food and cheer.
The tavern is housed in the old Community Office building, a project of the late Sotiris E. Drosos, then President of the Community. It first opened its doors as a tavern in 1997 under Andreas Al. Andreopoulos, and a few years later expanded to welcome even more patrons.
The first tavern of the “modern” era, however, was “The Meraklis” (The bon vivant), created by Giorgos Pelekis and his son Grigoris. From 1995, they served meals in the beautiful courtyard of their home, later moving to the “Kafeneio” and the village square until 2008. Every year on the feast day of Saint Paraskevi, Grigoris would host a grand traditional celebration at his establishment, with live music and roasted meats, reviving the age-old village fair of Chomori.
We should also remember the family of Anastasios A. Theofanis, who for many years ran a shop beside the old café, in the building known as Hantzofloros’ house. Their little store was at once butcher’s, grocery, and sometimes ouzeri, where one could enjoy a cold beer with homemade meat appetizers.
